Living in rural Northeast Washington – the land of mountains and valleys - I find inspiration in nature and on the road; photographing birds and wildlife, capturing people at work and play interspersed with the beautiful scenery in Northeast Washington. Then the challenge is to work the stories, colors and forms captured with my camera into paintings in impressionistic and abstract ways with a variety of watermedia and more recently soft pastels.
I am also a gardener; macro images reveal secrets in my garden that are easily overlooked. Paintings with carefully planned edges and brilliant, clean colors are a challenge. I find the combination of these ideas compelling, they test my mettle as a painter. I show and sell my work in local galleries and juried competitions and have earned Signature status within the Spokane Watercolor Society. Currently, I am not teaching. Covid forced the issue in the beginning, but now it feels like a long-term decision. There is so much wonderful content available virtually that in-person events cannot offer. If I do feel I can pick up the thread to produce something useful, class/workshop schedules will be posted on this site. Formerly a dental hygienist, I now fill my days with photography, hiking, gardening, and making sense of some of it in the studio. A very good schedule to keep :-) Gail~ |
